Met a girl two months ago here on the West Coast. She is finishing up her final semester of undergrad while I am a grad student. Finals week coming up. We had two dates before quarantine that went well. She has always been a slow texter with me but would reply with long messages She rarely initiates texts (e.g. only after dates saying she got home safely and had a good time). I am the one starting things usually. Wonderful and energetic in person though.
We were on spring break day after our second date. She went on a trip with friends. I called her for a quick catch up when she got back and at one point mentioned checking out a cool shop once quarantine was finished (we expected quarantine to only be a few weeks, but here we are 50 days later still at home). She mentioned her concerns for her family who she visits frequently which I totally respect so I backed off. She may have misinterpreted me as wanting to go during quarantine and not caring for why she was social distancing. We did joke about classes and graduation going virtual. I sent her a text later that evening saying I like talking to her and respect how she wants to social distance (wanted to clear up possible miscommunication). I joked that she should teach me an instrument (she knows how to play) with a funny meme during the quarantine. Later that week I was going through one of my social media apps and accidentally unfollowed her (didn’t realize since I was new to this app). I am not much of a social media person and I have mentioned it to her. We did share things on this platform. Later on, in the week, I realized I had unfollowed her and sent her an apology text about it but didn’t realize she unfollowed me back before I sent the apology. I called her about two weeks later (after my last text) to see how she was holding up but she didn’t pick up nor has she called/texted back (our school has gone virtual and we have loads of work). Neither of us has texted or called since (a couple of weeks).
I have been doing some reflecting on how I could improve overall as a human and realize I might have come off too needy with the uncertainty of the pandemic. It seems to me like a classic case of ghosting because of how I miscommunicated things the week I called her and then accidentally unfollowed her. She takes that social media app seriously. A part of my overthinking brain thinks that after quarantine (another month?), it might be worth asking her out one final time (virtual dates are fine) but I am going to accept responsibility and just move on. She gets really stressed easily so I could see covid pause.
What do y'all think? I have sent two unanswered texts and 1 call in a span of a month so nothing too crazy. We did text back and forth a little after the second date.
