Hi everyone, a girl I met and am talking to over lockdown just told me yesterday that she thinks we're moving too fast and wants to be friends and get to know each other better before we start actually dating. She told me the other day, "I still like you but if I'm being completely honest I feel like we might be moving a little too fast." When we do talk, we have good chemistry and we have a lot in common, but I don't quite understand what to do to slow things down.
I didn't know exactly how to reply to this as we're both in lockdown and haven't physically met, so I just said I understand and that I believe all good relationships are formed with a friendship as the backbone. I asked how exactly she feels that we are moving too fast, and she just gave me a somewhat vague response of, "just in general, games [we play Xbox/Nintendo Switch occasionally together] and stuff are fine but I feel like everything is moving too fast". I somewhat understand what she meant as we had been talking for over a month now and we made the bad habit of texting each other everyday all day, so I am cutting that bad habit and am only texting her to ask if she wants to watch a movie together or Facetime, etc. We also had a pretty serious talk the other night and we trusted each other with some pretty major, big things, so I think that also makes her think we're moving too fast because we are very trusting towards each other. But other than that, I don't know what else I did that was too fast.
My concern is that I'm overbearing to her, and that cutting down on my texting game, but I don't exactly know how I can be moving too fast when I've yet to meet her in person and go on actual, real life dates. Can anyone offer insight?
Basically, my reasons I think she thinks we're moving too fast are:
- We texted nonstop everyday for about a month back and forth
- We already trust each other with some major personal things about us
- She's more reserved and slower to open up, but I'm naturally more flirty and ambitious
TLDR: Girl I'm talking who I met over lockdown to thinks we're moving too fast and with all our interactions being through a screen, I don't know how to slow things down and need insight.
