I (f21) dated this guy (m23) for about a year and was completely smitten. He was perfect at first and then he slowly stopped investing and ultimately became cold. I had no choice but to break up with him. I was heart broken for months and truly thought only he could make me happy again.
For the last couple of months I’ve been talking to him again and I couldn’t be less invested. I’ve told him I’m busy with school and not emotionally available, so I’m not leading him on, yet he acts like we’re dating again. I’ve noticed I get annoyed by him a lot and find him to be pretty negative. He isn’t necessarily acting any differently than he did before, I just realized how much my emotions clouded my judgement of him. A lot of the time talking to him feels like a chore and it made me realize how much emotions alter perception. I realized we are not compatible and have little in common. Im now glad we broke up, because I see that a LTR with him wouldve made me miserable.
At one point I was in physical pain missing this person so much and now I’m pretty regularly annoyed by him. It’s funny how we can think we know what we want and be so wrong. In this case, not getting what I wanted was exactly what I needed. I just thought I’d share this for anyone dealing with a break up right now. It feels like the end of the world, but with time, the feelings go away and you’ll have clarity.
