My toxic ex trying to comeback today made me realize how much I’ve grown

My ex treated me horribly for close to a year. He knew I was in a bad place and took advantage of it and put me down to make himself feel better. We’ve broken up so many times before and like the fool I was I kept believing that I didn’t deserve better. Two months ago I cut him off for good. He casually tried to sneak back in a month ago and I ended up leaving him on read, but somewhat kept the door open.

Tonight he attempted to comeback again. He downplayed everything and even tried to turn it back on me for cutting him off. I finally closed the door by telling him I’m seeing someone that treats me with respect and that I’ve moved on and he should too. Although I am seeing a new guy who treats me well, the person I was talking about was actually myself. I am now the person treating myself with respect. It surprisingly ended with him saying he is happy if I am happy and me telling him I forgive him and hope he finds peace too.

As cheesy as this all is, it’s very true. Once you start to love yourself and refuse to let anyone treat you with anything but the upmost respect, you will have so much peace in your life. It can be very easy to lose sight of your value when you let someone treat you badly. But, when you realize your worth and refuse to tolerate any bs, you’ll weed out the toxic people. People who will treat you with respect will be attracted to your awareness of your worth and the fact that you don’t need anyone’s approval.

It takes time to heal, but be forgiving of yourself in the process and be patient. If you finally make the decision that enough is enough and start pouring into yourself, rather than others, you will see all that you have to offer. I hope that for anyone reading this right now.
