Hey community,
So earlier this year me (M28) and this honey (F25) met online back in Jan. We went on dates and we would spend nights together. She was really into me and showed it. However, off the back I had mentioned I wasn’t looking to be in a committed relationship. And she understood but still gave me time for us to go out on dates because she did ultimately want to be with me. I enjoyed her company a lot but at the same time I felt off becuase I didn’t feel as ready as her and that’s not fair for her.
Ultimately, I broke things off with her at the end of March/ early April right at the beginning of quarantine season. She was sad, but understanding. I was sad too, but I knew it had to be done. We’ve been spending the months in between doing our own thing. I’ve been reflecting a lot on myself, hiking, working out, meditating. And there hasn’t been a day where I don’t think about her. I’ve always liked her a lot. And now after some time of being apart and for me to get more situated with myself. I find myself wanting to see her more and more. And I feel like I’m way more ready now to commit more to her than when we first dated.
Anyway, I called her yesterday becuase I’ve genuinely missed her. We had a great conversation and I ended up telling her how I still feel about her. She said she still has love for me too, but that she doesn’t feel it the same way as when we were dating. She was happy to hear from me and is happy to continue to talk but that she won’t be committing to me. Pretty much now the roles have been reversed. Now that I feel ready, she doesn’t.
I asked her if she believes in persistence that if someone continues to show love that it will work out. She said no, but that “if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be”. I was heartbroken, just like she was back then. I still am as I am typing this. She lives pretty far from me now (she moved back in with her parents) and after work I really just want to buy her a bouquet and drive my ass over to personally drop them off. But idk how she would take that.
Has anyone on here experienced this before? And if so, did you have any luck with your consistency of showing your partner love to then be in your relationship again? I want to respect her boundaries but I don’t want this to be the girl that got away.
