I'm gonna preface this by saying that I definitely rank in the bottom half of users by attractiveness (at least physically). I'm not full of myself, and I don't expect a show or anything from the person on the other end of a conversation.
But what I don't understand is how every time I match with a girl the conversation manages to be so incredibly fucking boring that I would honestly rather talk to my pet vacuum robot, Theodore. With the exception of one person, everyone I've ever talked to on an online dating app has been mindbogglingly devoid of any personality or conversation skills. I've yet to ever meet someone IRL because I eventually gave up playing Atlas and let the conversation crash like it should.
Honestly, why do people respond back to open-ended questions and such with one-phrase answers and no questions? At best I get "and you?" questions. It's like these people have never talked to another human being in their life. I've seen only a small handful of people this awful at talking IRL, pretty much all having some sort of social anxiety disorder so it's pretty reasonable.
Granted my sample size is probably around ~20 people or so (again I'm not a looker), but what causes this to be the case? Is it just me that this happens to? Is it something I'm doing?
The way I see it, I can only think of two plausible explanations:
- They aren't really considering me as an option. In this case, end the conversation or just ghost me already please.
- They genuinely are actually awful at talking to people.
Again, I'm not expecting a show or any amazing social abilities — but most people can figure out how to respond to a question and ask another one. Right?
Maybe it's just me. Please tell me Reddit why this is happening.
