Three’s Company – Roommate + Boyfriend + Quarantine
Wanted to post here so I could get an unbiased opinion. Obviously something like this pandemic has never happened never happened in my lifetime so the proper social etiquette surrounding this is fuzzy.
Around mid March when stay at home orders were announced, my boyfriend ( who lives alone) started to spend the night 2x a week. He usually was over from about 7pm-9am. We would cook dinner one of the nights and once worked out and made breakfast on a weekend morning. In my opinion, I thought I was trying to be respectful of my roommate by capping him coming over to 2nights a week but in early April she let me know that it was too much and that his presence made her nervous due to the Pandemic. She asked that we no longer cook in the kitchen and stay out of main areas. This initially upset me as I felt like there was more to it than the pandemic… perhaps a bit of jealousy as we’ve been having issues since I started dating him ( almost a year ago ) She has attachment issues and has lost a few friends when they started dating people.
Anyways, back to my story. I calmed down and my boyfriend and I agreed that he would no longer come over, no longer go to the grocery store ( we order deliveries) and no longer visit the laundromat ( I take him laundry to my place and wash it) so basically we both don’t go anywhere, except I now go to his place and since we don’t go anywhere there’s no risk when I come home. My roommate goes shopping for her parents every two weeks but the shopping trips seem a bit long at 5-7 hours each time.
My boyfriend thinks this is too much and has requested to come over one time a week ( staying in my room) OR be able to do things like grocery shop And his own laundry. At this point, I honestly don’t even know what’s appropriate during this pandemic and want to be fair and want to hear your thoughts.
Sorry for the rambling!
