Scared of leading someone on?

A little backstory: days before I (21F) moved back home for quarantine, my friend (20M) confessed his feelings to me, and I reciprocated. He's been crushing on me since we met last year, but my feelings have only just developed in the past couple months. I didn't think anything would come of it seeing as we would be long distance, but we've been talking a lot and it's been rly cute!

I've only been in one serious relationship before, and it ended pretty badly. I haven't dated since (almost 3 years ago now) and I definitely move very slowly when it comes to these things. I'm easily scared by commitment and intimacy and I'm trying to work on this.

The guy I'm talking to now is very open with how he feels. Always telling me how much he likes and cares for me, talking about how excited he is to finally see me again, etc. I feel the same way but I'm also scared that he's way more invested in this than I am. I like him – but I'm still uneasy about all of this and I don't want him to think I lead him on if my feelings don't grow as his are.

I guess I'm just a little freaked out and scared of hurting his feelings. He's so sweet and deserves someone amazing, I just don't know if I can be that person.
