Should I learn to get used to this?

Hi there, a while ago now I was dumped and ever since then I’ve felt a lot of anxiety and had some worries about finding someone else. I’m 29 by the way.

When I was dumped I knew there were some things to fix and I’m happy to say I’m well on the way, but I remember being a bit worried about my job. I work in IT and I don’t earn that much but I earn enough to have no debts, pay my rent comfortably and do what I like to do. I’m stress free at my work because I enjoy it. My ex girlfriend used to work in a supermarket and it never even came into my thinking that this is a problem. I do earn below average but I’ve got savings and I spend sensibly.

Well I finally met a girl who was cute and very easy to talk to, for the first two days it went very well and she even reached out on the day this happened with a cute nickname. We got talking and I told her that I work IT for my local council and she simply said “don’t you want more than that?” And I guess my first question is, isn’t that kinda rude or am I just defensive? I just asked what was wrong with that and then that was it, no reply ever again.

I just want to emphasise that I’ve got no money trouble, I’m obviously not rich but I’m stable and can afford most things that I want. Do I just accept that I’m gonna be rejected for this or is this something that is unlikely? It really dented my confidence.
