TL;DR I'm 26F and I wonder if I should withdraw certain characteristics of mine to attract guys. Being pretty just isn't enough.
I'm 26F and I've been told for a majority of my life that I am too strong, independent, serious, feisty, and talk too fast sometimes. And a lot of Asian women are suppose to be sweet, meek, soft, gentle, and polite. Anything small and docile that you can think of. I'm the opposite because I don't like to look weak at face value.
I am strong because I grew up maturing fast to help tend to my nieces and nephews and extended family. I was that anchor that kept them together.
I am independent because I can trust myself to never use your need as a leverage to get something from you
I am serious because I haven't had many chances, growing up to be silly.
I am feisty because I am a little competitive and I am protective of my friends
I talk too fast sometimes because when I am passionate or get really excited, well good luck understanding me.
But every time someone says to me you're so feisty, aggressive, or intense I become a bit insecure and withdraw. It reminds me that sometimes I'm too much to handle and people want me as a friend than a significant other. My mother has always told me that nice Asian women are suppose to be docile and gentle. I am starting to wonder if I should try to pull myself back from these usual characteristics because I feel like it is pushing men away. Which really sucks because once you can get pass my demeanor, I consider myself to be thoughtful, caring, funny and sweet.
