Texting a lot of people to avoid giving too much attention to one

I have a habit of getting fixated on one person, who I’d like to text all of the time. Sometimes this person is quite reserved.

In order to match their energy, I channel all of my neediness into carrying on pointless or frenetic conversations with less appealing others. I feel bad about this because I know this results in me unceremoniously dropping people who may believe I’m very interested in them.

What do you do instead to avoid leading on others while not throwing yourself at the person you most like?
