The 3 main categories of guys on OLD in SoCal

I am well aware/worried that this might be received poorly. This is just my personal experience, and me recounting the (kind of sucky) encounters I have had with the guys here.

I live in South OC in California. I am 20f. I swear the type of young men, who I've interacted with, on dating apps majorly boil down to 3 categories:

1.) The Camp Pendleton bros. Normally (not always) just looking for casual sex. Their profiles usually have them posing with a group of guys in their uniforms. Sometimes they have individual pictures of them out hunting and posing with guns.

2.) The "TikTok bois" that I went to high school with (or we graduated the same year in the same school district, or they go to the local community colleges or I know of them through some distant connection). Honestly, these guys can be super cute. However, there really is nothing to do in the inland suburbs of South OC, and as a result, their entire personalities are weed, drinking, and raves (some wildcards include surfing/the beach). There is a reason I didn't date them when I was younger, and I guess that reason still stands.

3.) The Gym guys. Listen, my dudes. I look younger than my age as it is. These guys are out here jacked to the high heavens, nearly a foot taller than me, and look way older than their age. I am going to be honest, they kind of scare me. But good for them, they're probably super healthy and they look like they can bench press 2 of me.

Of course, I have have matched with and talked with some kickass guys who were super cool. I am not trying to say "all men are trash in OC!" But these types of nice dudes seem to be a rarity.

I guess it's just really frustrating. I feel like the culture down here promotes certain personality types that I don't really jive with. I have always felt this way. Now that I am back on the dating scene, after being with someone who I really connected with and who was totally different than everyone else, I am starting to notice how much I just don't like a lot of guys on these dating apps. I am definitely more into the quiet, little bit nerdy, and shy guys. I am more than willing to put myself out there and be social, and to some extent, I really enjoy it. But at the end of the day, I am just a quiet, little bit nerdy, and shy girl myself deep down.

It's also hard to "put yourself out there" and "meet people" right now because of the virus. I know the biggest place to meet new people right now is at school, clubs, and the surrounding areas that are just teeming with people like me. Unfortunately, no one knows if there will even be in-person classes this fall semester. The general consensus and seems to be a "no".

I guess that this is just a rant. A few of my friends are back home from college, and they honestly feel the same way too. It just sucks.
