The “spark” – explain this and do you believe in it?

I get chemistry and initial attraction but I was dating a guy for 3 months and one of the reasons he ended things with me was that he thought our “spark” wasn’t as strong as what he wanted it to be. Super hurtful but honestly, I’m not sure if a spark is something to base your relationship off of.
