The “You’re too good for me” speech

I’ve been sat down more times than I can count. At first everything seems great. You flirt. They flirt back. You talk all the time and have so much in common. You probably dont even have many expectations because this has happened over and over and over and…….

So you decided “I’ll follow their lead. If they go farther with this, I will follow” then they kiss you. So innocent but they pushed for it! Oh man does your heart race! Your rose glasses flare with excitement! Of course they chose to do that! you talk all the time AND you’ve been flirting for how long?? A month maybe a couple weeks?

Wait but you’re not going to fall for this again. You know better. You’ve been working on yourself. So you do your best not to be over bearing. But they keep going for you. They keep talking to you, oh my god they keep kissing you. Right?

So you let go. You become more intimate. You let things go. You just get to be you and it seems great! It is. It is great. So you take initiative. You want them, you’re done with sharing. Done with dating I mean. Will you be mine?

It ain’t valentines but your heart is so full of hope. And there it is. “You’re everything I want, but you’re too good for me” “I’m not what you want” “ excuse here excuse there”

And . This. Kills.

I know because I’ve been here. But for those who have made it this far because they relate I have something I learned.

It’s a good thing.

You my dear are a kind soul. You will attract people who are not ready to receive the love you are able and willing to give. You. Are. Incredible. And when they give you this speech, or this “gentle let down” remember that they got scared. You are so bright and full of goodness they thought they were ready to feel this warmth. What they did not realize is that in order to hold you they needed to look inward. Into the mirror and toward themselves.

But Moths only want to fly blindly into the light.

There is nothing wrong with you. You are a fire, wait for the one who may not know how to tend to it just yet but is willing to learn through the burns and ashes.
