Dating is one of my favorite things to think about and experience (with the right person). It’s helped me to learn a lot about myself, others, and just in general. Something that tends to always come along when dating for me is some insecurity on something. It could be insecurity about if I’m attractive enough for them, if they’re going to be okay when I tell them some intimate detail about myself, if I’ll be good enough in the bedroom, etc. These insecurities can be overwhelming and make me live on edge, thinking that I’m not good enough and at any point they’ll realize it and walk away.
In my most recent dating relationship, the partner and I were having a talk about how he genuinely thought I’d dump him when I was drinking with my friend. All along I’d been thinking that he would be dumping me, never even thinking about any other possibility.
He was insecure, just like me, though in different ways. I had to pull myself out of my own head to give him the support and validation he needed, which I’d never even noticed he craved before.
So next time you’re stressing about insecurities and thinking you might not be good enough for someone, take a breather and remember that they’re probably insecure about something, too. It’s okay to ask for validation if you need it and feel comfortable doing so. It’s also okay to just have a bit of peace of mind by knowing we all have something to be insecure about.
