Three bad pieces dating advice

Hi everyone, these are just my thought on certain pieces of dating advice that I just plain don't like. Let me know your thoughts on my list or if I left something off this list.

  1. “Be yourself.”

Why it sucks: This advice so shallow and incomplete that it is trivial.

What to say instead: You should talk to potential partners as freely and confidently as you do your friends and family.

  1. “When you stop looking that’s when you’ll find them.”

Why this sucks: It’s meta and counter-intuitive and also not very true.

What to say instead: Perhaps you are overvaluing potential partners so much that you are scaring them away.

  1. “If you can’t be alone for x amount of months then you shouldn’t be in a relationship.”

Why this sucks: This is not advice at all yet I have seen this given out like it is advice. In addition, it is untrue. Plenty of people go from relationship to relationship and deal with same issues as someone who takes more space between relationships.

What to say instead: There is nothing wrong with valuing dating/relationships/love but it wouldn’t hurt to find things in your life to value more than dating. Such as career/school, hobbies, friends/family and health/fitness.
