Some common advice I’ve seen passed around.
True, in theory it will help protect you from getting hurt, and will help you come across as more relaxed and less clingy/desperate but…
Is it really healthy?
Online dating is dehumanising enough as it is, and it’s not uncommon to find yourself thinking of these real people as being nothing but photos and names on a screen.
If your mindsset was that it was all a big game, not to be taken seriously, expect them to flake on the first and second so you’ll be pleasantly surprised if they don’t etc…how the hell can you even be remotely invested or excited about meeting?
The way I see it yeah you might help preserve your self esteem, but in doing so also stop yourself feeling the nice feeling associated with dating new people. Effectively muting your emotions like antidepressants.
Thoughts?
