Was I wrong in contacting his female friend to ask about his whereabouts and state of mind?

Full Original post can be found on my profile but I’ll give the shortened version to save time: – Dating a guy for several months, we have met up in person before and used to talk almost every day – Asks if he wanted to go hang out when he’s not busy, says he wants to – He then goes silent for almost a week, I ask what’s wrong – Tells me he’s dealing with major personal issues that don’t involve/affect me, wants to keep it to himself – I don’t push it, next following days he becomes unusually active on insta (posting everything he’s doing and where he’s going) which he has never done so before. I ask and he says this is how he copes. – Next insta story is him sitting across restaurant table, can see other person’s elbows and looks like female clothing – Sent him a message telling him what he’s been doing hasn’t been reminiscent of one who’s emotionally suffering, I feel like I’m being pushed away. Told him to be straightforward if he’s moved on. No response and not left on read for over a week. Only course of action was he unfollowed me.

Present:

It won’t paint me in a good light to admit I did look through his followers list to see if he had been active online recently (ie if he liked a friend’s most recent post.) I didn’t have to search far because one female friend of his had a recent picture of them together at the beach. She was wearing the exact color shirt as the “mystery person” from his stories.

Honestly I’m inclined to believe the friend angle because her bio states she’s in her 30’s while we are both in our early 20’s, but who knows. I figured if this dude already hates my guts, I had nothing to lose. I just wanted to find the truth and maybe he’d listen to reasoning from a friend. It’s that easy to fess up and communicate he’s not interested or come clean with the truth. I know I’m probably going to get responses saying I did the wrong thing, but nothing he did made sense to me.

Message I sent her:

“Hi, I’ve been dating/talking with X for several months, so you might not know me. But if you are friends with X, could you tell him he needs to be straightforward with his feelings or intentions?

I had no idea he had been going out to places because all he told me was that he was in pain. A recent insta story of his made me think he went out on a date, but I recognized the same shirt from his post and yours, which made me think to message you.

The last time I heard from him, he told me he was hurting really badly about something and “was coping by being alone.” He claimed it had nothing to do with me, and would talk to me about it when he’s ready, but it’s been over a week since he’s said anything. I’m worried about his mental state. I understand I should leave him alone, but in the same way he shared something personal to me, I wanted him to listen to what I had to say as well.

He’s now given the impression that he’s lost interest or moved on, which I’m not here to say is wrong. What’s wrong is that he’s left me in the dark about all of this and went completely silent. I haven’t known him long, but I think I’ve known him long enough to understand he’s capable of being honest and upfront. I don’t know what he’s thinking or going through.

I have messages to prove what I’m saying and that X knows me, if you want to see them. I’m really sorry for contacting you and I know this makes me look bad. This was between him and I, but I honestly didn’t know what to do; he’s said nothing.”
