We finally met after 3 months of texting and zoom calls…

Thought I’d tell my ‘Dating during Covd19’ story because I read so many posts where people said there was no point in even trying to date during this pandemic and to just wait until everything opens up again but I’m so happy I didn’t.

I’ve (F27) been crawling through this subreddit since becoming single for the first time in nearly 10 years after Christmas. This was going to be my year to get out there and see what I’ve been missing in the dating scene..and then Covid19 happened.

I had a fling with someone for a few weeks before Covid happened which fizzled out pretty quickly within the first few weeks of lockdown so I hit Tinder to kill the boredom. Within a few days I got talking to ‘M’ (M28) as well as a few others. As the weeks went on the others fizzled away but M consistently texted me everyday and we’d chat for hours. Eventually we took it to zoom for our first ‘date’. I genuinely didn’t know how it would go but we ended up talking from 7pm to 5am. So far so good.

We continued texting, doing zoom calls and watched movies together (we would txt each other during the movie). Our first bump in the road happened when I had seen he’d updated his Tinder bio. We were talking for a good 6/7 weeks by this point and I had felt we had gotten very close so this bothered me. I told him straight out how I felt and we talked it through and decided we wouldn’t talk to anyone else and we’d delete our Tinders. After this things kinda slowed down but we still maintained consistent texting. There was literally no day where we weren’t in contact. At one point I messed up and ended up drunkenly fooling around with a friend I’ve known for years (literally since we were 4). I felt like shit afterwards and told M because I didn’t want it to be something that would come out later on if things ended up working out. He was surprisingly understanding and we agreed we still wanted to stick it out and meet when lockdown ended.

Well last week our country began easing restrictions and we were finally able to meet! I was nervously excited but also worried we might not have chemistry in person. Thankfully I don’t think we had even a single moment of awkwardness. We got on so well and ended up staying up drinking, chatting and listening to music until 6am before finally going to bed. He went home the next night and we’ve kept contact ever since and have plans to meet again this weekend. I don’t know where it’s going to go from here but I’m hopeful this is something that will go further.

Hopefully this brings some amount of hope to anyone else still waiting to meet that person they’ve been talking to during this weird weird time.
