Why do guys like short women?

I'm a 5'6 woman and most of the guys I come across said they like short women 5'2 and under. They said I was too tall for them and not short enough. Most guys I've heard like short women, but its crazy because only 15 – 20% of women are short. I've even had guys tell me that I'm not cute enough to date and that if I was a short woman they would go out with me. It hurts and sucks, but I don't know why this is.
