I have a very firm belief that I will meet my "somebody" in person whilst going about my life or whatever, but obviously lockdown has made that much tougher than it already was, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and try out some online dating for once…
I'm not impressed.
First off, why the hell do I have to pay for the most basic features? I get my 20 free matches for the week and then what? Sit there and twiddle my thumbs and hope someone else saw my profile? Not like I'm able to check that either because I gotta pay for the stupid premium service to even see that too. Boost my profile to the top so everyone will see me first for $10 a month? No thank you!
There also seems to be a lot of people out there that treat this as a game or something? I've seen a few accounts already that state they're already in a relationship and are just "looking to play around" or "find something on the side". Whether they are just troll accounts or not, I certainly wouldn't be comfortable with being a side project essentially; especially if the other partner wasn't aware of it.
So far my experience with these sites and apps have left little to be desired. I get these aren't for everybody but there's something about the way they're all set up just rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe it's the fact most of the necessary features are locked behind a paywall, maybe it's the abundance of people that think it's all nothing to be taken seriously, maybe it's even just me, I don't know.
I can tell you that It's getting to be incredibly frustrating though. My experiences in reality haven't been very successful, and now that online seems to be a dud too, I can't help but feel desperation and doubt starting to creep it's way in…
