Why does everyone care more about finances than anything else?

I see it all the time on here that people will only go for other people if they make X amount or if they live alone. I just feel like if that’s your top priority that it’s going to lead to a horrible relationship. Shouldn’t it be just seeing if you get along and have a genuine connection? I work a lower paying job and job prospects are kinda scarce with everything going on ,but it feels like I’m constantly being judged for it by everyone I meet and reading stuff on this thread just confirms it.
