Long story cut short, a while ago I met a woman during a vacation and we went out a couple of times. However, we live so far away and unfortunately couldn't meet much again. We've met 1-2 times again over the course of one year when I happened to be in her country. We would text almost every day, occasionally speak on the phone, and I would send her a couple of "just because" gifts and flowers. I really liked her but we've never spoken if there was anything more than a long-distance friendship. I thought she somewhat liked me back as well (although I probably liked her much more), but it was probably more of a "situationship" given than anything else.
Unfortunately and surprisingly one day she started fading on me and after I tried reaching out to her a couple more times, she told me she couldn't communicate anymore. I was shocked, I told her how I felt and brought about the possibility of a relationship, and she then told me she saw me as a friend, without giving any further reasons why. I was surprised because everything seemed to be going well just before she faded on me; we were even planning to meet in-person again.
We stopped speaking for a while and then got in touch again a few weeks ago (we still live far apart). I learned that during the time that she faded on me, she had to leave her job and was busy looking for another one. We speak a lot these days, we've been talking almost every day and oddly enough, I felt our conversations and interactions have never been this close and intense.
I sometimes wonder if her fading was triggered by that big life event or whether she really wanted to cease contact with me…
