When you go on a date, treat that day like any other day. Don’t put that day on a higher pedestal than any other day because if it doesn’t go as planned, you’ll just be disappointed. I’ve learned this after being canceled the day of the date and havin…
READ MORE »Two important texting rules when talking to someone new
There are two key things that I follow by when I text someone new. 1. Don’t confuse that someone you’re texting with your best friend or your texting buddy 2. Don’t bug people / bother people about texting you back right away
So when I say don’t confuse someone you’re texting with your best friend or your texting buddy, I am talking about the friends you normally have CONSTANT communication with. I’m sure you have one of those friends who you’ll send random memes throughout the day or just have constant conversation more frequently than with other people. This person is NOT the same person as this new person you just met (whether online or in real life) and you shouldn’t be treating them the same way.
I believe there are different categories of people, let’s say from 1 to 10. 1 would be someone completely new, like someone at a job fair and 10 would be your best friend or significant other. The new person you met and are currently talking to, they’re maybe a 3. You can’t just jump a couple numbers on the scale to a 10! Thus, you shouldn’t treat this new person as your texting buddy! Just think, how long did it take for you to get from your pre-friend phase to close friend phase to where you send them random messages and memes everyday. Probably a bit of time!
Second thing, don’t bug people / bother people about texting you back right away. If someone lets you know their communication style and frequency, please listen to it. Personally, part of my job at work is being active on social media. Thus, people may see I’m active just because I am… but it’s for work. Just because I’m active doesn’t give people the right to bug me about not answering them right away. I’ve told people that I will get back to them and they still will nonstop text or send messages. A PSA is that if you keep nagging someone to text you, they will be less inclined to text you back.
These are just two simple rules I follow and they’ve worked well for me thus far!
