I want to have a girlfriend because I want to have female companionship, but I’m also pretty shy. I thought I’d get less shy over time, I’m 23 now and still as shy as I was in high school. I’m not so shy that I can’t respond to a girl if she asks me questions and I can ask her the same questions, but I cannot go up to a random girl I don’t know and just start talking. I feel stupid and weird complimenting a girl I don’t know well and it’s hard for me to flirt with a girl if I’m not mirroring her. Like I had a girlfriend before and I would flirt with her by doing the same things back to her she did to me, but I have a hard time flirting if a girl isn’t flirting with me. I feel super frustrated because girls seem to expect a guy to do everything and it feels like I freaking can’t. Thinking about approaching girls makes me so anxious I want to vomit and I honestly cannot come up with stuff to say if a girl doesn’t talk to me first. I’ve also gotten pretty hurt in the past from asking girls out and getting turned down and I kind of don’t want to even ask girls out anymore because I don’t want to get hurt.
