I'm not specifically talking about this subreddit, I'm talking about reddit in general (and probably a lot of internet forum sites). In my eyes, if both people are over 18, and the age gap is less than 10 years, then it's a minor gap in my opinion, and not even worth mentioning. Like I've actually seen people who are worried because they are 25 and they are dating a 20 or 21 year old! I mean that's just silly! These minor age gaps don't really matter as an adult. Yeah, when you're a kid or teen, it matters. But once you become an adult, it seems a bit weird to make a big deal out of a few years. Like some people are accused of "grooming" or being "toxic" if they're like 25 dating a 19 year old. This is ridiculous. I think all age gaps are fine as long as both parties are over 18. But an age gap that's less than 10 years is barely an age gap at all.
At the end of the day what matters is what both people are looking for in a relationship. Yes this is often based on age, but there always outliers. Like there may be people in their mid 20's who didn't get to date very much in high school and college. They are probably looking to date for experience and are not in a rush to get married. In this case it doesn't really matter if the person they are dating is 18 or 29. As long as the other person is not looking for marriage, it's fine. At the end of the day, whatever age range people choose to date is their own business. Just don't go after underage kids, or your butt will be sent to prison. And rightfully so.
Like for me personally, I'm in my mid 20's. Obviously, there's limit to how young I can go without it being illegal lol. Therefore the youngest I'd probably date is 19. 18 maybe, if the girl's in college, but it's risky because a lot of 18 year olds are still in high school. So it depends. The oldest I'd date is probably like 29. I know a lot of people might get mad at me for being more open to dating women who are younger, as opposed to dating people who are older. The reason I'm not open to dating people 30+, is because women tend to be looking to settle and get married in their 30s. Heck some women start looking in their late 20's. I mean, the current median age for women to marry in the U.S. is still very young, like 28 (only a couple years older than me). I don't plan on being someone's end-goal, so all the women looking for a potential husband, or looking to settle, or have an end-goal in mind, can all check themselves out at the door. Sorry, but as someone who never had a fun relationship, I owe it to myself to have the relationship I desire. And of course people looking for marriage owe it to themselves to find the relationship they want as well.
Now ultimately, if the woman is a little older, but is only looking for a chill, open-ended relationship (not to be confused with "open-relationship"), with no end-goal, then I'd be willing to date her if we click. But bear this in mind, I would rather date a 19 year old looking for an open-ended relationship with no end goal, than a 26 year old who is ready to settle and looking for a potential husband. Some people may hate me for that, some people might call me an "asshole". But I don't care. Besides the age gap between me and a 19 year old isn't even all that big. Remember I consider a noticeable age gap to be at least 10+ years. Therefore me and a 19 year old is not a noticeable age gap by my definition.
I mean, are people in real life so over-analytical about age gaps between two consenting adults? I mean to the point where 5 or 6 years or so is considered a "big gap"? Because most people in the real world would not care. Sometimes I wonder what goes on in the heads of people that use these internet forums. I'm not even mad, I just find it hilarious.
